Penryn is one of many locations in Cornwall and the UK commemorating the 80th anniversary of VJ Day on August 15th, which marks the end of World War II in the Pacific. The day will be remembered with services, wreath-laying, and beacon lighting ceremonies across the region. The National Memorial Arboretum will also host a public screening of a national commemorative event.
There is a VJ80 service at the Memorial Gardens on Sunday 10th August at 3pm led by Fr. Froom. This service has been arranged by the Royal British Legion.
St Gluvias Church will host a short prayer service on Friday 15th August, at 6:00pm following which the bells will ring out, in honour of those who served in the Far East and to mark the ultimate conclusion of the war.
